Jarlaith Carey Memorial Shield Winners

9th Jun 2026

A selection of P6 and P7 boys competed in Jarlath Carey Memorial Blitz on Tuesday 9th in Dundrum GAC. Jarlath Carey was a former Headmaster of Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum and a legendary midfielder on the Down teams of 1960 and 1961, he picked up two All Ireland SFC titles. Many of his grandchildren are past pupils of St. Joseph's.

The boys put on a superb show of kicking and ball carrying skills. They came out of the group stages winning three and losing two.

This meant we had to face our near neighbours St. Mary's Newcastle in the final. It was a very close contest with only a single score separating the sides in the end. Thankfully, the Carnacaville boys were on the right side of the result.

We would like to thank Martin Carey, Jarlath's son, Dundrum GAC and Mark Fitzsimmons at Sacred Heart Primary School for inviting us along to an extremely well run and enjoyable competition.

Congratulations to the boys for winning the shield.

Our panel for the day was: Lewis, Ethan, Ryan, Ollie, Dara, Harry, Daniel, Cillian, Cullen, Ollie W, Archie and Matthew.
